Strength to Witness (Part 2)

We all need strength to witness. Everyone needs Christ and we all had someone witness to us about Jesus. When people are going through issues, they need someone to tell them about the love of God and salvation through Jesus. There are even people in your household who may not be saved–they may know Jesus, but not live for Him.

As soon as we give our hearts to the Lord, we will be tested. It can happen on the job, among your friends, and even in your family. But persecution because we are standing for Christ is a blessing. But when people face trouble they will look for those who have a relationship with the Lord to pray for them. This is the perfect time to talk to them about Jesus. Be a witness.

Jesus is the Master of witnessing to others. We can learn from His example. Jesus used natural things people were concerned about to witness to them. Jesus was at the well and ministered the Gospel to a woman who came to get water. She became so excited about salvation, she forgot all about her water pot and told everyone she knew about Jesus.

  • John 4:28-30 New King James Version – The woman then left her water pot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.

Everyday you walk out your door, be available to be a witness for the Lord. You can be a witness at the store, on the job at the post office. What good is it if we know the Lord and we don’t share Him with others.

Witnessing 101

  1. Open your mouth and say something.
  2. Learn how to say “Jesus loves you” through sign language.
  3. Know that what you have to say about Jesus is more important than what they have to say if they don’t know Christ. (That doesn’t mean we can’t listen and be respectful while communicating)
  4. Direct the conversation back to Jesus and back to them (not difficult questions or problems in the world)
  5. If you hear someone talking about their troubles, turn their attention to Christ Jesus. Ask them if they have tried Jesus.

Why Witness?

The Word of God commands us to witness. Focus on people that are lost, who don’t know Christ (not the ones who are already saved.)

  • Luke 14:23 New King James Version – Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

Eliminate their excuses and direct them to salvation through Jesus.

  • Luke 14:16-24 New King James Version16 Then He said to him, “A certain man gave a great supper and invited many, 17 and sent his servant at supper time to say to those who were invited, ‘Come, for all things are now ready.’ 18 But they all with one accord began to make excuses. The first said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of ground, and I must go and see it. I ask you to have me excused.’ 19 And another said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to test them. I ask you to have me excused.’ 20 Still another said, ‘I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.’ 21 So that servant came and reported these things to his master. Then the master of the house, being angry, said to his servant, ‘Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in here the poor and the maimed and the lame and the blind.’ 22 And the servant said, ‘Master, it is done as you commanded, and still there is room.’ 23 Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. 24 For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.’ ”

For instance, we could reply: If you have property, you need God to help you manage it. If you have a problem, God is the best one who can help you solve it. If you are married, your spouse also needs to know the Lord so you can have a blessed marriage. Eliminate the excuses.

Imagine having a wedding and you planned for 200 people and only 30 show up. No one wants to waste that much food. So the host opens up the invitation to anyone–not just those people who were originally invited. That’s what God wants us to do. Take the invitation of salvation to everyone. The Lord has plenty of room.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.”
