How can we obey God? We need The Holy Spirit.

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 New King James Version

We are all called to serve. God even calls Himself the Servant. God became flesh and died for our sins. Jesus served us in the greatest way possible. Jesus said He came to minister and not be ministered to.

  • Matthew 20:28 New King James Version – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

But in order to obey God and serve people the way Jesus did, we need help.

  • John 16:7-11 New King James VersionNevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; 10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; 11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.

Some believers in Jesus have never received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

  • Acts 19:1-2 New King James Version – And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.”

The Holy Spirit will let us know what is right and what is wrong. He will convict us of sin and give us power to resist temptation. The Holy Spirit causes us to walk in the fruit of His Spirit.

  • Galatians 5:22-23 New King James Version – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

The Holy Spirit will help us do the will of God, but we need to ask the Holy Spirit for help.

  • Romans 8:13-14 New King James Version – For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

The Holy Spirit will help us…

  1. Talk right
  2. Do right
  3. Go right and
  4. Be a witness for Jesus

When we are filled with the Holy Spirit, there is no room for anything ungodly to get into our lives.
