“And He said, “Do not lay your hand on the lad, or do anything to him; for now I know that you fear God, since you have not withheld your son, your only son, from Me.” Genesis 22:12 New King James Version
Today so many people don’t want to commit to anything or anyone. A lack of commitment leads to instability. We don’t want to be unstable people, but we cannot commit to the Lord unless we know how. So how do we commit to the Lord?
- Psalm 37:5 New King James Version – Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.
In order to commit to the Lord…
- We have to trust the Lord.
- We have to obey the Lord.
- We have to deny ourselves.
- We have to avoid distraction.
- We have to be still and not make hasty decisions
We develop commitment to God when our commitment level is tested. God tests us and expects us to grow through the test. But the enemy tempts us to do evil. The Bible tells us…
- James 4:7 New King James Version – “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
God is committed to His Word. God never goes against His Word and He never breaks His promises. God puts His Word above His Name. God wants us to trust His Word and His promises by exercising faith in Him.
God will allow adversity, correction, and discipline to develop our character. We can either get bitter or better. Let’s commit to getting better every day. Adversity can make us stronger, better, wiser and more committed if we respond to adversity God’s way. Have a godly perspective. See the trials in life as opportunities for growth.
We cannot say we really love God unless we are committed to God.
- 1 Corinthians 10:13 New King James Version – No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
When we put God first and do things His way, we are truly committed to Him.
- Matthew 6:33 New King James Version – But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
The Lord wants us to operate on earth according to His principles and make Him the most important priority in our lives.
Some people don’t want to commit to God. The question is why?
- Committing to God requires change.
- They are too caught up in the world.
- They don’t want to give up self (selfishness).
- They are afraid following God because they don’t want to submit.
- They don’t want to have limitations on worldly things.
Let’s eliminate all these excuses and commit to God wholeheartedly.
